Orton-Gillingham Tutors of Manitoba (Updated March 21, 2018)

Do you know a child struggling with reading and writing?

All of our Manitoba O-G Tutors have extensive training in Orton-Gillingham tutoring methods. Orton-Gillingham is an instructional approach intended primarily for use with persons who have difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing of the sort associated with dyslexia. It is most properly understood and practised as an approach, not a method, program, system or technique. In the hands of a well-trained and experienced instructor, it is a powerful tool of exceptional breadth, depth, and flexibility.

Tutor Biographies:

Danielle Dewitt.

Danielle DewittI taught Kindergarten for three years before having the privilege of being a mom. After home-schooling our three children up to high school, I worked in a school in reading resource as an Educational Assistant. When introduced to the Orton-Gillingham approach, I was intrigued and took my training as a Practitioner. What I love about the OG approach is that it is hopeful. Objective research-based evidence shows that while people with dyslexia may not initially utilize multiple parts of their brain to read, new pathways can be established using a multi-sensory, structured approach. We will begin with a diagnostic lesson to identify areas of strength and weakness. Each subsequent lesson is individually designed based on the student's needs and the scope and sequences for each skill. I love working with children and building them up. I am passionate about teaching reading and writing. I find it a great privilege to provide hope and tools for reading and spelling confidence and success, and enjoy finding and making interesting games or activities for learning. I am committed to work diligently, taking the responsibility of tutoring seriously. I also enjoy walking, cross-country skiing, biking, learning, reading, encouraging, playing piano, games with my family, and good conversations.
