The  Dyslexia Champions of Manitoba and the Faculty of Education, UofM are hosting an 8-day summer course taught by Ms. Corey Zylstra of the REACH Learning Centre, North Vancouver, B.C.

This accredited course is designed for educators/practitioners who are looking to becoming certified OG Practitioners.

The course is appropriate for classroom teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, Reading Clinicians, school administrators and English as a second language educator.

Prerequisite Course = Orton-Gillingham Level 1 Foundations course (NOTE - Offered at UofM in April 2017)

Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Training

This accredited course is designed for educators to learn how to implement the OG approach in a classroom or small group setting.

Using the Orton-Gillingham approach and rationale for teaching, join our certified OG Trainers to learn how to implement the OG approach in a classroom or small group setting such a Learning Assistance/ Resource centre. This course will investigate OG classroom procedures for providing structured, sequential, multisensory language and phonics instruction in a classroom setting, including procedures for RTI implementation and progress monitoring. Provide instruction in reading and spelling that allows your students to be “Detectives” of the language and learn the code for mastering phonology, orthography, and syllabication. Strategies for penmanship/ letter formations, sight word teaching, alphabet sequencing, sound/symbol relationships, spelling rules, and syllables will be examined and practiced. Specific strategies for explicit reading and spelling instruction will be examined and practiced. This is a 60 hour course.

Prerequisite: Open to practicing teachers, speech pathologists and others with education degrees AND completion of Foundations of OG/MSL (which is offered at UofM in April, 2017).
